Work with the other parent to resolve child custody issues

On Behalf of | May 1, 2017 | Uncategorized |

Once you decide to move forward with divorce, you’ll realize that many questions and concerns must be addressed in the near future.

In some cases, litigation is the only way to work out differences, such as those associated with child custody.

Conversely, you may want to consider the benefits of working close with the other parent in an attempt to resolve child custody issues. This may sound impossible upfront, but it’s beneficial for many reasons.

In addition to the time and cost savings, this gives both individuals more control over the process.

Mediation is one of the most common forms of informal negotiations. With this, the parents work together, with the help of a mediator, to push the process forward. Child custody, among other details, can be settled through this approach.

This is not to say that mediation never has its challenges. In fact, you and the other parent will probably disagree on something at some point. This is all part of the process. By sticking with it, it’s the hope of all parties involved that a final agreement can be reached.

As you move through mediation in an attempt to resolve child custody issues, don’t overlook the fact that you can still consult with an attorney. With this approach, you can be confident that you’re making the right decisions.

Don’t assume that child custody issues have to be resolved through litigation. When both parents are on the same page, mediation, among other forms of dispute resolution, can put you on the right track to making the best decisions.
