If you find yourself staring the divorce process in the face, don’t hesitate to learn more about your many options for moving forward.
While there are times when litigation is the only way to go, this doesn’t have to be the all that ends all. If nothing else, you should learn more about mediation and what it can provide in terms of benefits.
There are many goals associated with divorce mediation, including but not necessarily limited to the following:
— To create an equitable and legally acceptable divorce agreement.
— To avoid the expense and stress that is often associated with litigation.
— To minimize the hostility between the divorcing couples, making it easier to move forward with the process and put the relationship in the past.
The third point is particularly important if you have one or more children with the person you are divorcing. Since you’ll remain in this person’s life, as to provide your child with a good upbringing, you don’t want to add any more hostility to the relationship.
Just because you give divorce mediation a try doesn’t mean you have to continue down this path. If you find that it’s not working for you, you always have the right to opt for litigation.
If nothing else, you should learn more about mediation and what it can do for all parties involved. This doesn’t mean that you give up any of your rights. Instead, your voice will be heard and your attorney can help ensure that you are making the right decisions and that you are happy with the end result.
