Understanding What Financial Assistance Is Available For Adoption

The adoption process especially for newborn adoptions can be a costly process. Below please find resources to ease your financial concerns. For more financial assistance options for your anticipated adoption, please contact a Fort Lauderdale adoption attorney at the Law Office of Rebekah Brown-Wiseman, P.A.

Job Security

The federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles qualified employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in a 12-month period for the placement of your adopted child. This provides you time to prepare for and care for the addition of your adopted child to your family while having sense of mind of job security. In order to be a qualified employee you must be working for an employer who employs at least 50 workers, be working full time for at least the last 12 months and have worked at least 1,250 hours within the last 12 months prior to receiving this adoption benefit.

Employee Benefit Programs

Refer to the human resources department at your place of employment to learn more about employee programs for adoption assistance and benefits. Inquire about programs for paid or unpaid employment, child care services or subsidiaries and other financial assistance for your adoption.

Military Subsidies And Child Care

If you are on active duty in the armed services of the United States of America, you may qualify for a $2,000.00 subsidiary per adopted child. The National Guard, Reserve and Active Duty military families with servicemembers serving in the Global War on Terror can receive financial assistance and help locating quality child care for adopted children in their communities thanks to the launch of a joint initiative between the Department of Defense (DoD) and the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA).
